The Weekly update

Well here is our weekly update!

1) We miss mountains. That was an overriding theme this week as we have unanimously decided that the 100+ heat and the humidity are not to our liking. Plus, we want some hiking and biking etc where you are not sweaty before you start! We miss you, Utah mountains that were so close not so very long ago.

2) I got to round with the OB/Peds team this week in the hospital, which was pretty cool. Highlights of that: seeing several deliveries including a C-section, and getting to do one of my first hands on thing-I got to deliver a placenta. WOOT. I guess it is a pretty menial task but I was pretty excited to do it.

3) The puppies at the puppy store, our weekly source of entertainment, has disappointed us, the puppies are not what they used to be.

4) Harry Potter was good.

5) We are glad that Penny got kicked off the Next Food Network Star. Although her food looked really really good. For the record we are rooting for Vic and Susie...

6) Caity makes the best ice cream praline dessert. It is soooo good.

What we have been doing lately

Hi everyone! We have had a lot going on this summer, and so we will start with what we have been up to since coming back from our long trip to Utah and Washington, and then we will post some pics from those trips.

Recently, I have been on a preceptorship with the family medicine residency in Bryan. It has been a really great experience thus far, despite some really long hours (that I know I will have to get used to in residency anyways). I started off my first week with working in the Family Medicine Clinic, and that was fun working with the residents and seeing quite a few patients a day. I got to see some ultra sounds, alot of well child checks, diabetes and hypertension management, and some OB visits. It was cool, mostly regular family medicine type stuff. In the second week, or last week, I got to go do rounds in the hospital. I had to be there at 5 in the morning (really early compared to the late mornings I was used to on our vacation haha) and then some days I stayed till 5. Despite me being really really tired at the end of the day, it was pretty cool. Some of the highlights for me were watching a mass being pulled out of a guys chest and being able to help participate in a circumcision. I thought the circumcision would be more traumatic for the baby, but it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. This next week I am going to do OB rounds in the hospital, so hopefully that will be fun!

I have had the car most of these past two weeks, so Caity has been stuck at home (I feel bad!). But she has been busy making really good food, as well as working hard on some more blankets. She is getting really excited for her schooling to start up again in the fall, as well as her subbing job.

This past weekend we went up to Dallas to see our friends Brad and Suzi, and we went to a waterpark at 6 flags. It was fun, the slides were great and we used a whole bottle of spray on sun screen so we would not get burnt! The down side was the water and the ground always seemed kinda gross. I think we have had our fill of water parks for the next few years. It was way fun though, and we enjoyed seeing Brad and Suzi. We really want to go back up to Dallas for the State Fair, which we figure should be pretty cool.

Ok here are some pictures of our trip!

Making cotton candy YUM

We visited this pawn shop in Vegas from our favorite show Pawn Stars!

We soaked a ton of stamps all day while we were in Utah, thanks Grandma for collecting all these neat stamps!

We took Reece golfing for the first time, he was in the bushes looking for his ball more than he would have liked.

I saw Hoover Dam for the first time, we were so nervous to even look over the edge. We were almost more amazed by the bridge they built over it.

We loved watching the water fountain show at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas.

It was so great seeing Alan while he was in town and taking us shooting with Grandma and Grandpa.

Reece as an Olympic skier! This was at the Olympic Park in Park City.

The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas was so cool and so big we were too tired from walking around all day to see it all!

Canoeing in Washington

This is called the gum wall in Seattle that we have contributed to.

6 Month Anniversary

Wooohooo! It is our six month anniversary! Major milestone right? lol Well to celebrate we went and got ourselves some fish! This is Lloyd and Harry.....

We really felt like we needed something living in the apartment besides us. No kids yet...and a dog? Too expensive and too small of an apartment (although there are some dang cute puppies at the puppy store at the mall. Oh man. So we thought...a fish! Then we saw the containers that let us keep 2 betta fish in the same tank, and so we got that one. It turns out they really do not like each other. Good thing there is a divider in the middle!

Well school is going good, I have 5 more tests before Christmas, so that definitely will keep me busy, but it is very enjoyable. We have dissected quite a bit on our cadavers...everything but the lower leg and the head and neck, all of which we also do before Christmas, so I am really looking forward to that.

Caity is working as a school sub and was not sick this weekend! She is also getting really good at crochet-ing and is making some cool stuff. She is pretty good!

We have gotten to know a couple of other couples (that do not have kids) in the ward the last few weeks and so that is really fun. We have been playing games and watching movies with them. We watched the Others for Halloween...that was suspenseful. Good movie though!

We also have decorated for Christmas (tree, garland in the window, and even a little tree that plugs into the USB of my computer for my desk to look festive)...we will have to take some pics soon to show y'all. And we have been listening to Christmas music, unfortunately our taste in Christmas music does not always agree...although Caity is warming up to the George Strait Christmas CD and I am starting to get used to some Mariah Carey, as well as the Killers...(Don't Shoot Me Santa?-kind of a funny song after all :)

Renaissance Festival

Flowers from Reece...he is the best:)

We went to the renaissance festival this past weekend with Rachel while she was here visiting! It was a lot bigger deal than we thought it would be. They had a whole village built and everyone was dressed up and way into it...maybe a little too much lol.

This was Reeces costume...jk

Cool mask store

Thanks Rachel for being with Reece and I so we can have pictures together!

Date Night

This weekend we finally got over being sick and went out for some fun! We went to the driving range to perfect our swing!

Reece got some new golf clubs so I am having fun trying to teach him...im no pro but I try:)

Well, we are still alive, still having fun here in Texas. Caity is working as a substitute and we are glad that she has a job and she is so amazing at it. And the kids don't listen she says. And she made a kid pee her pants in class....long story. I am doing good in school, loving it and studying way more than I ever have in my life...lets see I studied for 9 hours today....on a Saturday! Ahhh! Anyways, I am currently learning about the abdomen and all of its glory...intestines, liver, gall bladder, etc etc etc. Also about tons of other stuff, but the anatomy is probably the most fun to tell other people about.
